Widex Hearing Aids

The combined talents of gifted electronics engineer Christian Tøpholm and successful businessman Erik Westermann were the beginning point for establishing Widex hearing aids in 1956. While employed with Oticon from 1949 to 1955, the two helped the company’s production increase tenfold, while exports increased from 20% to 90%.

On their own, they were able to produce the Widex 561, an elegant pocket model hearing aid released in mid-1956, by applying exacting standards in research, development, and manufacturing; a commitment to delivering innovative technology; the establishment of long-term partnerships with hearing care providers; and a “passion for sound” that allowed them to become leaders in the hearing aid industry.

Widex took a leading role in 21st-century innovation by developing one of the most advanced AI sound engines on the market. Added to AI technology are personalization capabilities and seamless integration with other digital technology.

The company’s merger with Sivantos in 2019 led to the formation of the WS Audiology Group, the third-largest hearing aid manufacturer in the world.
